Midway Artist Studios houses 89 live-work studios with artists working in media that range from painting to photography, jewelry, sculpture, performing arts, filmmaking and many diverse media. The live-work studios are in three adjoined brick buildings which were formerly wool-warehouses, built in 1911 and remodeled in 2005 by Spalding Tougias Architects, Inc as an adaptive re-use. The building was purchased by Midway Artist Collective in 2014, and is run as a unique artist-run rental, under a non-profit model, providing affordable housing in a rapidly developing neighborhood.

The Midway Artist Studios exhibition showcases archived materials and photographs of the building during and before its renovation exposing the architectural design elements that were applied to support to function properly as an artist building. The building sets a strong example of a repurposed historical structure supporting a rooted community – the arts of Fort Point Boston

Common Boston is an annual festival of the Boston Society of Architects and now a program of the BSA Foundation. The annual city-wide event promotes a greater appreciation of the built environment, inspires discussion about excellence in design, planning, and preservation, and broadens awareness of the rich architectural and cultural traditions present in diverse communities throughout greater Boston.
